The Barbican Estate – 29th July 2022

The Barbican Estate is one of London’s best examples of Brutalist architecture. It was designed by architects Chamberlin, Powell and Bon as part of a utopian vision to transform an area of London left devastated by bombing during the Second World War.

Construction started in 1965 and took 11 years to complete. It was Grade II-listed in 2001. Whilst most people are familiar with the Arts Centre, the 40-acre Estate is also home to more than 2,000 flats, the Museum of London, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Barbican public library and the City of London School for Girls.
